About the Department
Established in 1958, the Department of Botany has evolved into a centre of scientific inquiry, offering a curriculum that addresses academic challenges in both basic and applied fields of Botany.
The undergraduate programme emphasizes experiential learning and research-inspired laboratory experiences. The curriculum covers diverse areas such as Microbial Diversity and Technology, lower and higher plant diversity, Plant Anatomy and Embryology, Ecology, Systematics, Physiology, Genetics, Plant Breeding, Molecular Biology, and Plant Biotechnology.
Qualified faculty members actively engage in research and interdisciplinary collaborations. Students are encouraged to undertake independent projects leading to scientific paper presentations and publications.

B.Sc. Botany
About the program:
The B.Sc. Botany Programme is an undergraduate course focused on the scientific study of plant life including diversity, structure, physiology, genetics, ecology and economic importance. It aims to build strong conceptual knowledge, practical laboratory skills and scientific thinking while promoting awareness of biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of plant resources. The programme prepares students for higher studies, research, teaching, careers in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, pharmaceuticals and environmental sectors. Its unique features include hands- on laboratory training, field visits, herbarium work, exposure to medicinal and ethnobotanical knowledge and skill-based learning that enhances employability, critical thinking and readiness for competitive examinations such as UPSC, UGC–CSIR NET.
B.Sc. Botany - Eligibility
Eligibility: Admission to the B.Sc. Botany programme requires successful completion of the Pre-University Course (PUC) with PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology) or PCBH (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Home Science) subject combinations in accordance with the minimum marks prescribed by the university.

- Higher Education and Research - M.Sc. in Botany, Plant Science, Naturopathy, Nutritional Science, Food Technology, Food science or related fields. M.Phil. / Ph.D. for careers in academics and research institutions like CSIR, ICAR, BSI, IARI.
