School of Commerce, Finance and Accountancy

The School of Commerce Finance and Accountancy was instituted immediately after the St Aloysius College conferred the status of deemed to be university in 2024. Prior to this, the Department of Commerce was established in 1944, to offer B Com degree programme and ever since, it has been the pioneer in imparting commerce education now for 80 years, at St Aloysius.

Today, under the university set-up, the School of Commerce Finance and Accountancy offers undergraduate, post-graduate and research programmes. The UG & PG programmes comprise excellent course structure with the choice of electives. The programme structure encompasses Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Banking, HR, Marketing, Business Laws, Computer Applications and Business Analytics. Training in soft skills and personality development, internship and placement opportunities are the added features. The autonomous status granted in 2007 has enabled the department to evolve industry relevant course curriculum.

In recent years specialized batches have been introduced integrating professional studies along with B Com, such as CA, ACCA, Business Analytics and Apprenticeship embedded programme. These batches are in the morning shift from 7.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. MOUs with ACCA/ISDC, KVC Academy and Business Intelligence Lab have been signed for the conduct of classes by professionals and experts for these batches. The PG programme, M Com was started in 2008 and a specialized PG programme, M Com (Finance & Analytics) in 2018. An exclusive lab with 80 computers was set up to teach practical accounting through ERP software for the B Com (Apprenticeship embedded) and M Com (Finance and Analytics) batches.

There has been overwhelming response from the students to pursue commerce programme in recent times. Currently the School of Commerce Finance and Accountancy is the largest in the campus comprising about 2,300 UG and about 180 PG students on rolls, pursuing B Com and M Com Programmes under the mentorship of over 55 teaching faculty members.

The School of Commerce Finance and Accountancy regularly organizes conferences, seminars, FDPs, workshops and guest lectures for the benefits of students and teachers. To expose the students to the real business world, industrial visits are arranged. It also organizes national level inter collegiate talent fests both at UG & PG levels. It publishes bi-annual news-letter – ASCENT.

Generations of students have been graduated in commerce from the institution; they are now occupying key positions in various walks of life across the world. Many of them have become successful entrepreneurs, Chartered Accountants, Lawyers and joined reputed firms on employment in India and abroad. Undergraduate:
  1. B Com: This Program offers students exposure to all functional areas of commerce, finance, accountancy, Taxation, HR, and Marketing.
  2. B Com (International Finance): This is a ACCA embedded program, accredited by ACCA / ISDC through an MoU, where students have an opportunity to become ACCA affiliates along with B Com. The students of this stream will get exemption for six ACCA papers; they need to appear and clear seven papers to acquire ACCA qualification.
  3. B Com (Accounting & Tax): Students while pursuing this B Com program are offered training in foundation and inter-mediate level of studies of Chartered Accountancy professional qualification of ICAI.
  4. B Com (Apprenticeship / Internship embedded): This B Com program comprises lab-based courses leant through ERP and Business Analytics software, whereby students are exposed to real functional processes of industry. The sixth semester is full time internship, where students gain hands on experience of real jobs in the industry.
  5. B Com (Business Analytics): This B Com program offers specialization in business analytics. One course on business analytics in each semester has been integrated in the program structure to expose the learners to be proficient in data analytics.
Post graduate:
  1. M Com : This Program offers graduates advanced and higher-level studies in commerce, finance and accountancy.
  2. M Com (Finance and Analytics): This M Com program is a specialized program, where students learn finance and accounting courses through computer applications. The course curriculum includes comprehensive software training in MS Excel, Tally Prime, PSPP, and R Studio, empowering students in accounting, GST compliance, and data analysis.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.):

Doctoral Research in commerce related areas is offered on full / part time basis by the qualified research supervisors of the school.
