Adoption of MOOCs under SWAYAM platform for credit transfer across BA, B Com, BCA and BSc Programs.
Background
SWAYAM is an online platform of the Government of India designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy, viz., access, equity, and quality. Through the SWAYAM platform, students can take online courses from leading Higher Education Institutions to fulfil credit requirements for their university's academic programme, which can be accessed by anyone, anywhere at any point in time.
As per the UGC Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds Regulations, 2021, an institution can allow students to take up to 40% of their total courses online in a particular programme in a semester, through the SWAYAM Platform.
Adoption at St Aloysius
St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) requires all undergraduate students of BA, BCom, BCA, and BSc Programme to complete 2 MOOCs prescribed by their respective department/school that are published on SWAYAM platform in their III and IV semesters.
Purpose
The purpose behind adopting SWAYAM (MOOCs) is to discover students' learning path by switching to smart education with wider range of accessibility and resources beyond classroom. The initiative promotes easy, attainable and relevant learning with SWAYAM.
Implementation Plan
The University has designated a faculty member as the Nodal Officer as a single point of contact for SWAYAM to coordinate with the SWAYAM Technical team in matters related to SWAYAM Courses including registration and credit transfer. One faculty from each school has been designated as the school level SWAYAM Coordinator for the smooth conduct of MOOCs.
The University has constituted a SWAYAM Advisory Committee headed by the Vice-Chancellor and coordinated by the University SWAYAM Nodal officer for all SWAYAM-related issues at the University level. The school level SWAYAM Coordinators shall be the members of this committee. The Advisory Committee ensures the seamless access to all SWAYAM-related information.
School level SWAYAM Coordinators and the Chairman of BOS/Heads of Departments jointly shall identify courses of 3 credits each from the SWAYAM portal based on the students’ requirement/curriculum at the beginning of the semester.
In multi-faculty schools (BA /BSc), one course per faculty/department shall be selected and students shall be allowed to opt any one course from their major courses. In single faculty Programme, (BCom/BBA/BCA) minimum of three courses shall be chosen.
The selected list of courses shall be submitted to the Nodal officer who will share the details of courses at the beginning of the semester with the SWAYAM Advisory Committee of the University.
The Chairperson of the BOS shall nominate suitable faculty members as SWAYAM Mentors for each course at the University level. SWAYAM mentors shall join the respective courses in the SWAYAM portal in order to understand the requirements of the courses. additional faculty assistance is provided by designating a faculty member as a facilitator in case of group consisting of more than 20 students. The Course mentor and facilitator guide the students throughout the course which includes timely submission of assignments, conduct of Lab/Practical sessions/doubt clarification classes, etc. One session of 50 minutes in a week is exclusively allocated in the time table for the SWAYAM classes.

The University has made amendments in its Ordinances, Rules and Regulations in the Academic Council meeting to incorporate provisions for transfer of credits for MOOC s courses as per UGC Regulations. Two courses of three credits each shall be incorporated in third and fourth semester of their undergraduate programme respectively through online learning via the SWAYAM Platform as per University Grants Commission Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds Regulations, 2021.
- The Chairman of BOS/Heads of the Departments and the School level SWAYAM coordinators jointly shall identify courses of 3 credits each from the SWAYAM portal based on the students’ requirement/curriculum which shall be approved by the SWAYAM Advisory Committee of the university and the approved list shall be announced to the students.
- An awareness and sensitization program related to SWAYAM courses shall be conducted for the staff members and students of the university at different levels at the beginning of the academic year.
- Program Regulations insist the students to choose the one course each in third and fourth semester respectively, from any of the courses prescribed by the respective schools on the SWAYAM platform.
- The SWAYAM coordinators, mentors/facilitators along with the help of class guides facilitate timely registration of students for the SWAYAM course approved by the SWAYAM Advisory committee of the University.
- The SWAYAM Mentors/Facilitators shall ensure that students who have registered for the SWAYAM courses participate in discussion forums, quizzes and assignments conducted by the SWAYAM Course Coordinator.
Yes, All UG programs require an entrance test. Information of the same will be sent via SMS / email / WhatsApp to the applicants.
The university shall conduct the SWAYAM examination along with end semester examination of the University.
To pass in a SWAYAM Course, a minimum of 40% passing marks (i.e., minimum 12/30 marks in Assessments/Quizzes & 28/70 Marks in the end semester examination) is required.
The SWAYAM Nodal Officer of the university shall upload the marks out of 70 obtained by the students in the end-semester examination, conducted by the University, on the SWAYAM platform.
The Nodal Officer of the university shall submit the total marks (out of 100) obtained by students from the SWAYAM platform to the Controller of Examination (CoE) and the same shall be reflected in the students’ University Mark-sheet / Transcript.
University shall ensure that the marks of all the students who have appeared for the SWAYAM Examination are mapped and visible to the students in their APAAR.

About the Cell
The Internal Complaints Committee responsible for addressing grievances related to abuse and harassment. It is constituted under POSH act 2013.
“Sexual harassment” includes any one or more of the following unwelcome acts or behavior (whether directly or by implication) namely:
- Physical contact and advances; or
- A demand or request for sexual favours; or
- Making sexually coloured remarks; or
- Showing pornography; or
- Any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of sexual nature
Plan of Action
To conduct enquiries into all kinds of sexual harassment cases for their redressal within 90 days and encourage a gender-friendly atmosphere for both staff and the students.
To organize gender sensitization awareness programmes for all stakeholders.
The committee comprises of 10 members from various departments, including one external member who runs a Non-Government Organisation and deals with women and child issues.
The committee meets regularly to assess the reports received on account of sexual harassment from various departments.
The committee organizes guest talks and seminars to staff and students to give more information related to reporting of sexual harassment within the campus.

About the Cell
The Counsellors are also called as the “Professional Listeners” ensure a holistic well-being of students for a fulfilling humane existence. Themission is to achieve enhanced mental health, so that students are emotionally balanced, academically accomplished and socially integrated through the prevention and professional intervention.
To reach out to maximum number of students, having Mental health or otherwise, the University management has appointed 6 counsellors, and they work in different blocks of the colleges and for different departments.
Initiatives
Conduct programmes of awareness on Mental Health
Identify students in need of Psychological and Emotional support: through student mapping, from the attendance shortage, from backlogs, from behavioral issues referred by the staff.
Equip the students with coping strategies and life skills
Provide professional listening and interventions through individual and group counselling.
Help the students to have healthy intra and inter personal relationships
Conduct workshops/talks/Sessions for all students in general, by the Experts on various mental health issues.
Conduct for students therapeutic counselling
Refer the students in need of psychiatric treatment, to the Psychiatrist
Conduct family counselling.
Meet and discuss the cases weekly or monthly basis
