About

In keeping with its Vision & Mission, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) Mangaluru,managed by Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society, establishes the “Office of Dean ofResearch” –a separate entity under the direction of the Principal – to promote theresearch ambience, create and sustain a research culture, motivate staff and students to engage in research activities. The aim is to inspire, guide and coordinate the initiatives of the staff and students towards doctoral and post-doctoral research in the sciences and the humanities, towards major and minor research projects, towards organizing of national and international conferences, towards presentation of research papers and their publication in reputed journals, and similar other research-related matters. The Office of the Dean of Research encompasses in its ambit all research activities and personnel under the auspices St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) Mangaluru,including aided and management paid staff, and students and research scholars be they regular, part-time or external.

Mission

  • To create and promote a culture of research among the faculty and staff of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) Mangaluru.
  • To enable the research aptitudes of the faculty members, scholars and the students and an instrument to enhance their scientific tempo contributing to the ongoing growth of the knowledge society.
  • Through initiating transformative/fundamental/interdisciplinary research, contribute to new research evidences and also prepare young generation of scientists to address the challenges of the society.

Research and Development Centre (RDC)

The Research and Development Cell (RDC) of the University encompasses in its ambit all research and innovation activities under the auspices of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru.

The aim of the cell is to inspire, guide and coordinate the initiatives of the staff and students towards doctoral and post-doctoral research in sciences and humanities, towards major and minor research projects, towards organizing of national and international conferences, towards presentation of research papers and their publication in reputed journals, and similar other research-related matters.

The regular research activities of the College are headed by the Director of Research and Development Cell and Assisted by Coordinators of Research in Various Schools. The RDC is supported by various committees for promotion of research culture.

Consultancy

Through consultancy, university provides opportunities to the faculty members and researchers to share their expertise with the industry. These are also experiential learnings for the academicians. The industry also get benefited from the experience and the knowledge of the faculty. The revenue generated is utilized by the university for the nigrostriatal and academic development

Instrumentation Centre

The instrumentation center of St Aloysius (Deem dot be University) is dedicated to the ‘Golden batch’ of 1971 St. Aloysius College, who contributed generously to support research excellence at St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University). The centre is equipped with several advanced instruments supporting the research activities.

The batch offered several projects for its Alma mater when the college was at the threshold of becoming a university and strides with gusto into its 143rd year of glorious existence. The batch not only planned a celebration of coming together but, more importantly, have come up with a generous thought of securing and ensuring excellence in Research and Innovation by putting in place one of the best Advanced Instrumentation Centres in their beloved Alma mater.

Besides this, the Alumni established “M V Nair & Venkat Endowment Fund” for the children of police constables, by Sri M.V. Nair and Sri Venkat, proud Alumni of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangalore. The launch of this Fund was held on 27th May 2022 in Eric Mathias Hall of the College. Mr Alok Kumar, ADGP (Law and order) was the Chief Guest and launched the “M V Nair & Venkat Endowment Fund” officially.

Research Programmes

Ph.D. Programmes

Full-time Ph.D. Programme

The Ph.D. programme offers intensive research training under expert faculty supervision, focusing on advanced theoretical and applied research with access to well-equipped laboratories, libraries, and research facilities.

Part-time Ph.D. Programme

The part-time Ph.D. programme is designed for working professionals and faculty members with a flexible research timeline and structured guidance. The University also encourages industry–academia research collaboration.

Student Research

Mandatory research dissertation is integrated into all Master’s programmes. The program focuses to provide foundational research skills for academic and industry support Students undertake original research and get experience in designing research data generation, data analysis and report writing.

Undergraduate research

The university’s research culture promotes innovation , ethical practices and knowledge generation for societal advancement. Research-based project work is included for UG courses. Separate dissertation is integrated in to the UG research Programme. Project fund is allocated to support student research and students are encouraged to publish their work

Projects

Two types of projects are taken up by the faculty. Faculty members are encouraged to apply for fund from UGC and other agencies/ Organizations. Provisions are made to support the research and the publication

The University supports faculty, scholars and students to attend conferences, seminars and workshops to publish their work as well as to build networks and to encourage knowledge enhancement. Incentives are provided for the faculty publishes their work in Q1& Q2 tier journals

Intellectual Property Rights / Patents / Copyrights

At St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), we foster a culture of innovation and creativity. Intellectual Property (IP) rights are the primary mechanism by which we protect the original ideas, inventions and artistic works of our students and faculty. The Outcome of the innovative explorations of faculty, phd scholars and students are registered under copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and patents.
