Dr. Shreelalitha Suvarna J. is an accomplished academic and researcher with expertise in biosciences, biotechnology, and environmental physiology. She holds a Ph.D. in Non-Conventional Legumes of Coastal Sand Dunes and Mangroves of Southwest India, earned under the guidance of Dr. K.R. Sridhar at Mangalore University. Her research interests span genetic inheritance, microbiological applications, food and nutrition, agrobotany, and conservation ecology.
Currently serving as the Assistant Professor and Head of the M.Sc. Biotechnology Department at St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, she has been in academia for over 12 years. She has also worked as a guest faculty at Mangalore University and St. Aloysius College. Dr. Shreelalitha has employed various teaching methodologies, including PowerPoint lectures, video-based learning, and hands-on student engagement through seminars and assignments.
Her research contributions are extensive, with multiple publications in reputed journals and conference presentations at national and international levels. She has also won awards for best paper presentations in conferences held in Nepal and India. Additionally, she has authored book chapters on nutraceutical and bioactive properties of wild legumes.
Beyond academia, she has a passion for classical arts, holding titles such as Vidushi in Bharatanatyam and a junior certification in Carnatic music. She has also been recognized with Rajyapuraskar and Rashtrapati Puraskar awards in Scouts and Guides. With her strong interpersonal, communication, and research skills, Dr. Shreelalitha continues to inspire students and contribute significantly to biosciences and environmental conservation.
