The School of Physical Science, Department of Mathematics, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) organized a programme to commemorate 111th Birth Memorial of Prof. K.A. Krishnamurthy, a former professor of Mathematics at St Aloysius College on 23rd August 2024 in Eric Mathias Hall.
Dr John E D’Silva, the former director of Xavier block of the University was the Chief Guest. Dr Chethana U.V., former HOD of Mathematics, University College, Mangaluru and Prof. B R Shankar, Department of MACS, NITK, Surathkal, were the guests of honour. Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, Vice Chancellor of the University presided over the programme. Dr Alwyn D’Sa, Registrar of the College and Dr Ronald Nazareth, Registrar of the University, Ms Anupriya Shetty, HOD of PG Mathamatics and Mr Chriswin Prem Vas, the staff convener, were on the dais.
Chief Guest, Dr John E D’Silva in his address shared his views and thoughts about Prof. K.A. Krishnamurthy and explained why he has been remembered till now. He said that Prof. Krishnamurthy is the icon of all the values and a man of kindness and harmony. During his tenure as professor, he showered great love and affection to his students as well as the entire staff of the College. He urged the students to walk in his footsteps and be a role model to others.
Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, in his presidential remarks mentioned the exemplary qualities of Prof. Krishnamurthy and how he inspired each and everyone in the campus. He quoted Mr Nicola Tesla, a Serbian-American Engineer and inventor, who is also a great mathematician, and explained how he adopted Mathematics in his day to day life.
Prof B R Shankar delivered a lecture on 'Mathematics: The Language God Speaks' during which he beautifully highlighted the significance of mathematical concepts in understanding the universe.
Dr Chethana U.V. was felicitated during the programme for the valuable services in the field of Mathematics.
Ms Rollin Preetha Vaz conducted the prize distribution ceremony for the competitions organized in honour of Prof. K.A. Krishnamurthy.
Anisha, II M.Sc. Mathematics compered the programme. Ms Anupriya Shetty welcomed the gathering. Ms Priya Monteiro introduced the guests of honour. Mr Chriswin Prem Vas proposed the vote of thanks.
