St Aloysius University holds a one-day National Conference on “Sustainable Smart Materials, Discrete and Computational Sciences”
The School of Physical Sciences of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) organized a one-day National Level Conference on “Sustainable Smart Materials, Discrete and Computational Sciences” on 17 September 2026. The programme commenced at 9:30 a.m. with an introductory session chaired by Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis, S.J., Vice Chancellor, in the presence of Dr. Y. N. Sudhakar, Chief Guest, Dr. Ronald Nazareth, Registrar, Dr. Rachael Natasha Mary, Dean, School of Physical Sciences, and the convenors, Dr. Ashwini and Dr. Laveena D’Souza.
The introductory session was followed by a keynote address by Dr. Y. N. Sudhakar, Associate Professor, Manipal Institute of Technology, on computational techniques used in energy storage systems. Dr. Ajith K. M., Professor, Department of Physics, NITK Surathkal, delivered an insightful session on “2D Material Modelling: An Introduction.” A poster presentation was held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., featuring a total of 48 research posters presented by participants from within and outside the institution.
Following the lunch break, two parallel sessions were conducted: “New Material Designs for Brain-Inspired Computation,” by Dr. Ramesh Thamankar, Professor, Centre for Functional Materials, VIT Vellore, at Eric Mathias Hall, and “Recent Studies in Fuzzy Optimization,” by Rev. Dr. Joseph Varghese, Head of the Department of Mathematics, Kuriakose Elias College, Kottayam, at Joseph Wiley Hall. Both sessions were highly informative, enlightening, and well organized.
The conference concluded with the Valedictory Session, presided over by Dr. Ronald Nazareth, during which the Best Poster Presentation Awards were presented to students from Mathematics, Statistics and Electronics; Chemistry; and Physics. The event concluded with the presidential address and the vote of thanks.
