Overview
About the Department
The Department of Physics at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, was established in 1926 and boasts a rich legacy of nearly a century. Over the decades, it has played a pivotal role in nurturing aspiring scientists, engineers, and technologists by providing a strong foundation in basic sciences and fostering ambitious pursuits in higher education and research.
The department is committed to holistic student development, cultivating a scientific temperament, critical thinking, and self-confidence. This is achieved through a blend of engaging classroom lectures, hands-on practical sessions, seminars, quizzes, assignments, model-making competitions, internships, projects, and vibrant science festivals.
Additionally, the department actively trains students for national-level competitive examinations such as IIT-JAM, JEST, UGC-CSIR NET, and GATE, preparing them for advanced studies and research careers.

Industrial Visit
Industrial Visit to Canara Springs Mangalore
As a part of Association activity, The PG Department of Physics made a visit to Canara Springs on 24 th January 2024. The Canara Workshops Ltd. is one of the leading experts in suspensions and pioneers in leaf springs.
The company is the first of its kind to start indigenous laminated leaf spring manufacturing in India and also among the first to introduce advanced technologies to improve the performance of leaf springs. They manufacture leaf springs for heavy commercial vehicles, light commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles and also for passenger cars.
Overall, the students had gained insights into the manufacturing process, material selection, quality control, and engineering principles involved. They witnessed the use of machinery, automation, and specialized techniques employed in leaf spring manufacturing.
