SOE and School of Physical Sciences Host National Workshop on Ethical AI Research

Sept 18, 2025: The School of Engineering, in association with the School of Physical Sciences, organized a National Workshop on “Intelligence with Integrity: Research in the Time of AI” on 18th September 2025 at Sanidhya Hall, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru. Attended by students, faculty, and research scholars, the workshop explored the opportunities and challenges of Artificial Intelligence in research, with a focus on ethics, transparency, and fairness.

The inaugural was presided by Rev. Dr Melwyn D'Cunha, Pro-Vice Chancellor, St Aloysius. Distinguished professors from Christ University, Bengaluru, led the sessions. Dr Kavitha R spoke on Interdisciplinary Research Avenues with Computational Intelligence, emphasizing collaborative approaches across domains. Dr Sivakumar R discussed Trustworthy AI Systems: The Role of Explainability and Its Research Issues, underlining the need for transparency in building societal trust. Dr Rajesh R presented on From Big Data to Fair Decisions: Building Responsible AI, highlighting frameworks for fairness and accountability in data-driven decisions.

The workshop was coordinated by Ms Aarathi T and Dr Geetha Pinto of School of Engineering, with the guidance of Dr Ruban S, Dean, School of Engineering, and Dr Aruna Kalkur, Dean, School of Physical Sciences. It provided participants with valuable insights into research trends, the challenges of explainability, and the responsibility of ensuring ethical AI, making it a truly enriching academic experience.
