About the Department

The Department of Food Science at St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University) traces its roots to the Department of Food Science and Technology, established in 2013 with support from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. Initially offering a postgraduate program, it evolved into a full-fledged department in 2018, marking a significant step in academic and research excellence. With the university’s expansion, the undergraduate Food Science program was integrated into the School of Life Sciences in 2024, further enhancing the department’s interdisciplinary reach and research potential.

About the Theme

Warm greetings to all participants, colleagues, and students. We are delighted to announce the Two Day National Conference hosted by the School of Life Sciences, Department of Food Science, centered on the theme “Future of Food: Harnessing Life Sciences and Food Technology for Sustainable Nutrition” which aims to explore the transformative potential of science and innovation in shaping a healthier, more sustainable food future. The theme focuses on integrating cutting-edge innovations in life sciences and food technology to develop sustainable and resilient food systems. As the world faces growing challenges like climate change, limited resources, and a rising population, it is important to rethink how we produce, process, and consume food to protect both people and the planet.

Sustainable nutrition lies at the heart of global well-being and economic progress. The convergence of life sciences and food technology provides the tools to unlock novel solutions from alternative proteins, functional foods, and precision fermentation to smart packaging and waste valorization. This conference will serve as a collaborative platform to discuss how these innovations can reduce environmental footprints, enhance nutritional quality, and contribute to global goals such as zero hunger and sustainable development. By promoting evidence-based discussions and interdisciplinary research, the event seeks to bridge the gap between science, policy, and practice.

As we look toward a future of sustainable food and nutrition security, “Future of Food” emphasizes the collective responsibility of scientists, educators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to drive transformative change. The theme underscores that the future of food depends not just on innovation but also on inclusivity, ethics, and environmental stewardship. Through shared knowledge and visionary thinking, this conference envisions paving the path for a nourished, sustainable, and equitable global food system — one that supports the well-being of both people and the planet.
