The Departments of Journalism and Visual Communication, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) organised ‘Shooting Stars 2024’ - A National Level Film Fest/Conference Programme on 15th March 2024 in the L. F. Rasquinha Hall.
Mr Ranjan S., Cine Actor was the Chief Guest. Mr Dhiraj Shetty alias Dheerappan, a National Category Manager at Reliance Retail by profession and a content creator on social media, was the Guest of Honour. Dr Alwyn DSa, Registrar & Controller of Examinations, presided over the programme. Dr Charles V Furtado, Director, Admin Block, Ms Bhavya Shetty, HOD of Journalism, Rev. Fr William Marcel Rodrigues, HOD of Visual Communication, Mr Likhith Shenoy, Convenor, Greeshma & Ashwin Vinod Kumar, student coordinators were present on the dais.
Dheeraj Shetty, in his address spoke about the challenges he faced in life. He told the students not to accept defeat no matter what it is. Saying his father as an inspiration, he explained how he has risen from failure to success as a content creator.
Dr Alwyn DSa in his presidential remarks said that even if the artists face the same defeats, they will overcome it and continue.
Dr Charles V Furtado, in his message said, "It is difficult to start a new programme, it is even more difficult to continue it," and spoke about the importance of journalism in today's world.
The D Creations' Scam 1770 team jointly released the teaser, song and poster of the film during Shooting Stars 2024. On this occasion, the film's lead actor Ranjan S, actor Raghu Shivamogga, director Vikas Pushpagiri, actress Harini, music director Satish Aryan graced the occasion. Director Vikas Pushpagiri said that ‘Lakshmi’ can be stolen but not ‘Saraswati’ and appealed to the students to watch their film about the scam in educational institutions along with their parents.
Iiola compered the programme. Rev. Fr William Marcel Rodrígues welcomed the gathering. Student Coordinator Ashwin Vinod Kumar delivered the vote of thanks.
As the chief guest of the valedictory programme, Walter Nandalike, Founder of Daijiworld Pvt Ltd said that journalism was his favourite subject and advised the students to become good journalists without any ideological bias. Comedian Arvind Bolar, another guest, explained the meaning of comedy, saying that comedy is not comedy done alone. It becomes a comedy only if the people who see it laugh.
Prof. William Marcel, Head of Journalism Department, Dr Rose Veera D'Souza, Dean, Faculty of Arts, students of Journalism and Visual Communication Department, student coordinators were present for the programme.
Short Film and Documentary Film Competition, Photography, Mock Press, Reel, Reportage, Mad Add competitions were organized for the students of various colleges. Students from eleven colleges participated in these, Vivekananda College, Puttur emerged as Overall Champions, Srinivas College won the II Place.
