About the Department
The Department of Zoology at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, established in 1958, is one of the institution’s oldest and most distinguished departments. Renowned for excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement, the department offers comprehensive undergraduate education in Zoology.
The department is equipped with well-sophisticated laboratories, a dedicated project room, a well-arranged museum, and a specialized Fisheries and Hydrobiology laboratory, providing students with strong practical exposure.

B.Sc. ZOOLOGY
About the programme:
The B.Sc. Zoology programme provides a strong foundation in understanding life at all levels of organization. The curriculum covers essential areas such as cell biology, genetics, infectious diseases, biochemistry, molecular biology, gene technology, immunology, and computational biology, helping students explore the mechanisms that govern life processes. Students also study animal physiology, behaviour, non-chordates, economic zoology, chordate diversity, and comparative anatomy, gaining a broad understanding of the animal kingdom. The programme includes hands-on learning through bioinstrumentation, laboratory techniques, and field studies, along with in-depth exposure to evolutionary and developmental biology, environmental biology, wildlife management, and conservation. Overall, the course equips students with scientific knowledge, research skills, and practical experience needed for higher studies and careers in life sciences, research, healthcare, environment, and biodiversity conservation.
B.Sc. ZOOLOGY - Eligibility
Candidates who have successfully completed PUC/10+2 or equivalent examination with Biology as one of the subjects are eligible to apply for the B.Sc. Zoology programme. A strong interest in life sciences and basic scientific aptitude will be beneficial for pursuing this course.
