Department of Political Science(UG)
The Department of Political Science was established in the year 1959. It aims to create an atmosphere of academic excellence among students of the department and help develop the abilities of faculty members.
Students are encouraged to read literature pertaining to Political Theory, Processes, Management, International Relations and Public Administration. The department makes use of visual aids, conducts exposure visits, Panel Discussions, Group Discussions, Seminars and Paper Presentations.
Efforts are made to help the students improve argumentative and writing abilities and ICT skills .Team work and better interpersonal relationship in the current political, social and economic issues. The department in collaboration with NGO and other bodies organizes national seminars / workshops related to current political issues.

Department of Political Science organised a visit to Mangaluru Municipal Corporation for 3rd B A students. Students interacted with Mayor Sudhir Shetty, Corporators and officials in Corporation and gained knowledge of structure and functioning of local administration. Students also witnessed the session of the Corporation, on 26th Septemer 2023, Dr. Shakila Hegde accompanied the students
The students of III B A Political Science visited The Mangalore City Corporation on 26 September 2023. The students were guided around by Mr Laxmikanth, the personal assistant of the Mayor, who also answered their queries. The students shown around the conference room, Mayor’s office and the Mangala Sabhangana. They had the opportunity to witness the proceedings of the session which was the first session held after the election of the Mayor and the Chairpersons of the four Standing Committees. The MLA gave the opening address and two issues were put up for discussion by the opposition regarding housing problems in Mangalore and Garbage collection.
The students were educated on the structure and functioning of the standing committees as well as the proceedings of the municipal corporation meetings. Hence, this visit proved to be very insightful.
