REPORT ON GUEST TALK: “ROAD AHEAD IN PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION” - FEBRUARY 1, 2024

On February 1, 2024, the Department of Business Administration organized a guest talk titled “Road Ahead in Professional Education” in the LCRI hall. The event saw the participation of 220 students from the Professional and Analytical batches. The discussion revolved around contemporary ideas in education, skill acquisition, and strategies to enhance students' future educational plans.

The session began at 9:55 AM with a welcome address by Ms. Gauthami Shetty. Dignitaries present included Ms. Claret Pereira, Dean and Head of the Department of Business Administration, and Ms. Sahana S, the staff convener. The guest speaker, Ms. Teresa Jacobs, Executive Director of Learning at ISDC, UK, was introduced on the dais.

Ms. Teresa Jacobs delivered an insightful talk emphasizing the importance of professional education and skills acquisition as crucial elements for enhancing students’ future learning and career prospects. She elaborated on the subject of analytics and its emerging fields, stressing the value of specialization in a particular area to gain a competitive edge, rather than spreading oneself too thin across multiple disciplines. Additionally, she underscored the significance of gaining work experience before pursuing a master’s degree.

The talk also expanded the audience's understanding of how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is influencing both students' minds and educational institutions. Ms. Jacobs discussed the dual nature of AI—while it presents certain challenges, it also offers substantial benefits in workplace efficiency. AI's capability to streamline information, technology, and processes contributes to a better work-life balance for employees.

In conclusion, Ms. Teresa Jacobs highlighted the importance of embracing failure as a stepping stone to success, encouraging students to view setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning. The session was both enlightening and motivational, providing students with valuable insights into the evolving landscape of professional education.
