M.Sc., Ph.D.
Dr. Jiji George is a distinguished Biotechnologist, Researcher, and Educator, currently serving as Assistant Professor (Stage III) at St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University) and Coordinator of the Biotechnology Skill Enhancement Programme (BiSEP). Under his leadership, BiSEP has successfully placed professionals in leading biotechnology industries, bridging academia and industry.
He holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kasaragod (affiliated with Mangalore University) and completed postdoctoral research at the Manipal Centre for Virus Research. His diverse research interests span Sustainable Agriculture, Industrial Microbiology, Molecular Diagnostics, and Environmental Biotechnology. His contributions include developing halophilic biofilm systems for seawater desalination, bioinoculants for soil remediation, phytoremediation strategies, and nutraceutical extractions. His virology expertise led to the development of Real-Time PCR kits for H1N1, HSV, Dengue, and a single-run RT-PCR for Kyasanur Forest Disease Virus (GenBank: JX901169).
Dr. George has secured research grants from KSCST, DBT, and KBITS and applied a patent for kit-based detection of mineral oil adulteration in coconut oil. His seventy nucleic acid sequence submissions to NCBI highlight his genetic research contributions. Recognized with Best Guide Award and Best Project of the Year (2020) by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) and SAMBHRAMA Awards (2021, 2024), he has mentored numerous postgraduate students and a doctoral fellow in biotechnology.
He has led faculty development programs (FDPs), technical workshops, and skill-based training in molecular diagnostics, PCR techniques, fermentation technology, and environmental biotechnology, equipping students and professionals with advanced expertise.
