St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, observed Human Rights Day on 10th December 2024 in Sanidhya Hall.
Dr Rose Veera DSouza, Dean of Arts and Humanities of the College was the chief guest for the day. Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, Correspondent of the College presided over the programme. Rev. Dr Melwyn DCunha, SJ, Dr Alwyn DSa, Dr Charles Furtado, staff and students present for the above program.
Dr Rose Veera DSouza in her speech explained the distinct classification of generation rights and lauded the contribution of Hansa Mehta, the Indian Delegate to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in 1947-48 who was responsible for incorporating Gender Component to the UDHR. She gave an account of Human Rights and explained the responsibility of the social science students at St Aloysius to spread the awareness on human rights. The responsibility to promote the understanding on Women and Child Rights is very urgent, she added. She also mentioned the urgent need to promote environmental rights.
Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, SJ in his speech spoke about human right as a value to promote democratic ethos. He urged the audience to know more about the SDG goals and stressed the need to create awareness on basic human rights.
Anamika shared her thoughts about the basic rights, such as gender equality, respect the elders, right to education, right to respect each other for better transformative society.
