Eligibility

  • As per Mangalore University Regulations
  • Candidates who have passed the three year B.A./B.Sc. degree examination of Mangalore University or any other University considered as equivalent thereto with Economics as major/optional/special subject are eligible for the programme provided they have secured a minimum of 45% (40% for SC/ST/Category-I candidates) marks in the Economics subject.

About the Course

The department established in the year 2008, offers a two year CBCS-PG Programme, M A in Economics. The curriculum is designed to provide academic competence in the areas of both theoretical and applied economics, enhancing the professional objectives of students.

The course is designed to reflect new developments in the discipline of Economics and is closely oriented towards the professional employment market in India and abroad.

Medium of Instruction – The medium of instruction is ENGLISH.
Duration of the programme : The duration of CBCS-PG programme M.A. in Economics shall be 4 semesters (2 years) of 18 weeks each.

Placement Cell

St Aloysius College Placement Cell has been established to facilitate Student Community in order to strengthen their career and find more avenues for their intellectual development & contribution to the society. Also department is running a student placement cell and placement mail service.

Special Features of the Programme

  • Rural Exposure Programme: A week long Rural Exposure programme is included as a part of Curriculum before the completion of IV Semester and will be recorded in the IV Semester Marks card. It is compulsory for all students pursuing PG Courses in St Aloysius College. Guest Lectures: The Department oragnises Special Guest Lectures inviting eminent scholars from academics and industry to give additional input in learning.
  • Soft Skills Training : The overall development of the students is enhanced through various soft skills training programmes including spoken English certificate classes.
  • Educational Tour : To expose students’ to practical situations, the Department organises educational tours to various industries, research institutes, libraries etc.
  • Project Work : Project work is a platform that calls upon the application of the collective knowledge gained throughout the course. It provides opportunities to students to learn practical aspects that cannot be taught in a class room.
  • Extension Activities, Field Exposure, Industrial Visits : To experience the real time exposure of society, the department is organizing social extension activities with the help of students. To test and learn the practical side of theories, we have field exposure. Industrial visits are very regular to give industrial experience to the students.

The PG degree programme M.A. in Economics with specialization in Financial Economics, International Finance prepares a student for a wide range of professional careers. Some of them are:

  • Teaching: For PUC, Central Schools as PGT Teacher, Degree Courses like B.A, B.Com, BBM, BABL, BHM etc, P. G. Courses in Economics, M.B.A. and Allied Courses and Professional Courses.
  • Higher Studies: On completion of M.A in Applied Economics students can pursue higher studies like M.Phil, Ph.D etc. Clearing of JRF examination will enable the students eligible for scholarships during their Ph.D studies.
  • Research: On completion of Ph.D. as Research Assistant, Research Associate, Research Coordinator, Economic Researcher, Project Fellow Director of Research Projects. There are over 25 national level research institutes in India under the purview of ICSSR. Several Universities and Institutions of Higher learning also provide opportunities for research.
