SAC celebrated International Women’s Day 2023

The Women's Forum, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru in association with Govt of India, Central Bureau of Communication, Mangalore, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting celebrated International Women's Day 2023 on 8th Match 2023 in L F Rasquinha hall. Dr Joylene DAlmeida, Consultant Obestetrician and Gynecologist was the chief guest. Smt Vani Alva, Zonal Commission, Surathkal, Smt Priya Rajmohan, Central Commissioner, Dept of Women and Child Development and Mr Rinni DSouza, President, Dept of Child Welfare Committee were the guests of honour. Principal, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, presided over the program.

Dr Joylene D'Almeida in her inaugural address spoke about how women should love themselves and take care of their mental and physical health. She stressed the importance of taking a regular health check up by women once they cross 40. She urged that women should set an example for both men and women. She also spoke on the importance of girl child and special care should be given to them. 

Mr Renni D'Souza shared his experience about the problems that are faced by the girl child and shared his knowledge on how to prevent the same and the measures that should be taken for the same. He briefed about the POCSO Act. He said that protection of the children from criminals is a need of the hour. Assault for children both physical and mental should be noted and intervention to be made in this regard. It is our duty to inform the Police whenever we found any kind of crime in the society, he added.

Smt Vani V Alva shared a few words about women empowerment and women's role in everyone's life. She addressed the gathering on how we should respect women and respect each other as human beings too. She spoke on the duties of mothers and respect them wherever and however they are. She told the students to enjoy and follow their dreams and respect their parents and teachers.

Smt Priya Rajmohan shared her knowledge and enlightened the audience about SAKHI - One Stop Centre 24x7 - which is a center for women who are in need of immediate help from violence. She spoke on violence happens on women and children. To provide full-fledged services like rehabilitation, counselling, etc. by Sakhi, women police will come for help in such situation.
 Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, in his presidential remarks, spoke about the women empowerment and celebrating the women in our lives and how to honour them.

This was followed by prize distribution to all the winners of the Wow- wonders of women events that took place in previous week followed by certificate of appreciation distribution to all the members of the core committee and students involved. 
Dr Renita D’Souza, co-ordinator Women’s forum welcomed the gathering. Student coordinator, Leona Alison D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks.
