St Aloysius College (Autonomous) held its 139th Annual Athletic Meet on 12th December 2018 in the College Centenary Ground. Dr Gerald Santhosh D’Souza, Assistant Director of Physical Education, Mangalore University was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the Annual Athletic Meet Open. Former ‘Mr World’ Mr Raymond D’Souza, was the Guest of Honour.

Chief Guest Dr Gerald Santhosh D’Souza in his inaugural speech applauded Mr Donnet D'Souza and Mr Arun D'Souza of Physical Education department for taking initiative in organizing such an event and preparing the students in presenting the thoughtful messages during the March Past. He also reminisced his school and college days spent in this institution and shared his experiences as a sports student. He said that this Meet is more like a get-together which participation is an achievement in itself. He urged the students to involve more in sports and get laurels to the institution. Besides this, sports will keep us physically fit and mentally strong. He also appreciated the College for providing wonderful sports facilities to students to excel in sports.

Rector, Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz, SJ, in his presidential remarks said, “It is very exciting moment to see the sea of students participating in this Athletic Meet by spreading wonderful social messages.” He also said that “Sports should begin with desire and continue with determination and dedication.” The College has introduced a New Sports Policy for students to excel in sports and games, he added.

During the Meet, the renovated Gym, Badminton Court, Basketball Court and Vermibin Unit were inaugurated by the guests.

Dr A.M. Narahari, Registrar, Rev. Fr Melwyn Lobo, Finance Officer, Deans, HODs, Class Guides, teaching and non-teaching staff were present during the meet.

Principal Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ welcomed the gathering. Athletic Meet Coordinator, Ms Precilla D’Silva proposed the vote of thanks.
