Maleria Eradication Programme


On 10-02-2019, a group of students from St Aloysius College joined with Mangalore City Corporation in an effort to destruct Larvae breeding Sources in the interior areas of Mangalore. Jyothi Nagara near Kavoor is facing a threat of frequent Malaria infestation cases. In order to control this  situation, M.C.C officials in collaboration with Centre for Social Concern, St Aloysius college, planned to conduct a Programme to destruct Larvae breeding sources such as abandoned Vessels, Buckets, Ice cream Cups, Coconut Shells and other stagnant water resources through a collective effort. 

A large team consisting of 70 students from different U.G streams of St Aloysius College along with staff, Multipurpose Workers of Mangalore City Corporation and natives of this area checked each and every corners of Jyothi Nagara, a sort of Semi-Urban Slum which is inhabited by Labors who migrated from different areas of North Karnataka districts and Tamil nadu. This team could successfully destruct hundreds of sources where large scale Larvae breeding was going on. Team was equipped with the facilities of chemical spraying over the stagnant water resources, which are comparatively large and stationary.

The session was inaugurated by Dr Arun Kumar, DMO (District Malaria officer) by addressing the students. Multipurpose workers were guided by Mr Nithin, Assistant Health Inspector, and students were accompanied by Mr Shown D’Souza along with Mr Sharon CN, Coordinator Centre for Social Concern which is an activity extension department of St Aloysius College.
