Feminism Shaped Key Movements in History: Nivedita Menon

Mangaluru: In the remembrance of Ms. P. P. Gomathi, a teacher who worked for the betterment of the society, the P. P. Gomathi Memorial Education Trust in association with St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) organized a annual lecture by Prof. Nivedita Menon, Professor of Political Thought, J.N.U., Delhi on the subject "Feminist Politics in India Today: Some Key Issues", here on Monday.

Prof. Menon said, "If you speak anti-national then you are nationalistic. Feminism is motivated and influenced by several movements in which the transgender rights movements is also a factor." "The very concept of Feminism goes beyond the restricted ideas of womanhood.

It questions the gender roles and growing to full potential irrespective of biological factors", she added. She lime-lighted on several other topics such as Uniform Civil Code, Triple Talaq and sexual issues related to rape.

Dr. Praveen Martis SJ, Principal of the college, K. P. Vasudeva Rao, Trustee of P. P. Gomathi Memorial Education Trust, Dr. Kesavan Veluthat, Historian and Professor Delhi University, students of the college and from various other colleges from Mangaluru were present. The programme concluded with a interactive session.
